Default Motorcycle insurance rate went up, up, and away!

I went to renew my motorcycle insurance policy and found that Geico had increased my rate from $233 to over $541. WTF? I called them up and a representative explained that Wisconsin had recently passed a law requiring higher minimums. Thus, the more costly policy. Those minimums are so far beyond what I reasonably need, it is ridiculous. You have to love legislators who think they know what is best for you. I would also bet any money there were some speaking out in support of the bill that claimed it would reduce insurance rates for motorists. Nice! I seem to recall a similar debate on the national scale. Hmmm?

Anyway, where have you guys and gals gone to get the lowest cost insurance rates? I've gotten quotes from Progressive and Geico so far. I was hoping to uncover some good deals from the smaller, lesser known providers.

Sometimes it pays to 'shop around' and even check out of State for your insurance coverage.

I check around and compare rates from time to time, and Dairyland Insurance (a Division of Sentry Insurance) constantly gives me the best rates for full coverage on my bikes.

BUT, crazy as it sounds, if I go out of State (through an agent in Texas) I can get the exact same full coverage insurance through Dairyland for approximately 50% less than through a local agent here in my home State.

Dairyland does provide coverage there in Wisconsin, and if you might be interested shoot me a "PM" and I'll give you contact information. Never hurts to check and see if they might be able to save your some money.

Just got my renewal notice and got real excited, it said I should pay $204. Thought that was a great price, but looked a little closer and the $204 was the 1st of 3 payments due. The next 2 are $150 each, so mine is now $500 a year.

Basic full coverage for '05 RG went up $44 to $270. Add $88 for permanently attached accessories brings it to $358 per year with $500 deductible. Add another $90 for medical payments for yourself. The worst part is that American Family offers no discounts for loud pipes, assless chaps or fingerless gloves!

Progressive- the older my bike gets , the more accident free riding experience I have, the higher the rates. It's gone up every year (no tickets). 07 StreetGlide = $625 this year.
