Apes or no apes???? that is the question

Once you go ape, you will never go back! Not only does it look cool as hell, it is actually very, very, very comfortable. That is, after your arms and hands get over the initial shock for the first couple of weeks. I was dissapointed, pissed off, and uncomfortable as hell when I did mine. Two weeks later, I felt more in control of my bike than ever before. It sure is comfy. The hands still tend to get a little numb after about 100 miles, but that is what smoke breaks are for, or just shake them out a little.
Once you whip that beast around a curve when you are comfortable around it, you will honestly be hooked. The reaction time of the bike is crazy. I scrape the hell out of my floorboards every time I hit 64 thru Lake Lure, but thats cause she is lowered as far as she can go now! Lol!

14's are a nice compromise too. as someone else said, best option is to check out a similar bike as yours with 16's and see if the owner will let you try them. Most will have no problem with that.

my bike came with them. i did go up a little, from 12 to 14 with 4" risers. i would buy custom chrome apes because mine cracked in half, right where the wires came out between the risers, there real junk. comfortable, not really, figure your arms are angled upwards so the blood flow isnt all that great. some people dont have any problem with this and others fingers get numb after riding a while. up to you.

Dude...tell me you have air ride in that thing. Otherwise how the hell do you not drag that pipe?!
as for apes...seem a bit fashion over function to me. No offense intended of course. I sat on a bro's old FLH with 16"ers and gotta admit they felt pretty good. I'm 6'2" and a little longer in the top half. I didn't ride the bike, though. Gotta wonder about long-haul comfort, too

Albritton,
Take the Dr.'s advice and order the 16" -1.5" Carlini's from him.
I initially made the mistake of purchasing the Cyclesmith's 13's -good value and quality, but don't hold a candle to the brillant appearance given by Flying or Gangster Apes.
Save a little longer and buy the Carlini stuff...

go with the apes
don''t know how anybody can ride with out them
on my 04 std I got by with the clutch cable and front brake line
rerouted both .
throttle cables they only give you about 1 inch of slack so you need them
I have 16 inch apes on one inch risers
love them and I can do 600 miles a day at my advanced age 69
have been riding apes for 50+ years..
enjoy

The beauty of the INTERNET is your avenues if you don't like something. Pull the trigger and put them on. If after a couple weeks you feel you made a mistake, put them on ebay and recoup half or better of your costs. If you love them, ride on....either way, its not a disaster.
