I say go for it but if you are really unsure try to catch a local bike night. There is usually no shortage of Fat Boys or Heritages with apes, I'm sure if you ask nicely someone will let you sit on their bike and get an idea of how they would feel on your bike.

I've went from Drag bars to 17" apes when I had my Pan. It was easy back the. Only a throttle cable (1) and a brake lever.

Now a days it's a drawn out process. Are they Comfy, Yes and no. Thing is do you like them?

Everyone with them will tell you to get them, those that dont like them will say not to. I personally will never run them again but if ya never ran them then try them. If you dont like them you still have all the other chrome goodies you bundled up there...

When I bought my 99 RK it had the stock bars. The steering felt really "heavy" to me and it just seemed like the bike weighed 1,000 pounds. I put apes on but I think they are 13" ones. My hands are still below my shoulders which keeps me from getting ticketed in the states I ride. The bike feels like it's much more nimble and easier to steer with the apes. And for some reason the bike just feels lighter to me. Although Many people use them I don't care for bars that are over my head (and yes I've already seen the picture 100 times of THAT yellow bike with the 3foot tall apes).

i know how you feel Al, i am was going to get them but Missouri, or Misery says no higher than 15 inches from the seat. i sat on a fat boy with them before i got my heritage and the little apes on it are sooo not high enough. let me know what you do, maybe we can do it together (in a totally non-gay, not that there is anything wrong with that)

If you are thinking about them every night and you already have the money, quit over analyzing everything and get the damn things. It's possible that you MAY regret getting them, but I doubt it. But you and I both know that if you do not try them you will ALWAYS regret not giving it a try. Go for it. Good luck.

Aw hell, I know you will like them. Everyone does.

I'll never own another bike without apes. I love how they look and they are WAY more comfortable than stock.
