So I let my 14 year old daughter go over to her new "boyfriend's" property to ride quads with him and his father who I know. She comes home to tell my wife the following story: Boyfriend's father asks if I have a motorcycle to which she replies yes. So of course he asks what kind and she says that I ride a Harley. He says "Oh, so do I, what kind does he have?". Daughter replies " I dunno, he used to have a Fatboy but now he has a bigger one" (Roadglide). So the guy says" I have a Sportster" to which my oblivious daughter says " Oh they are cute, my mom wants one". Daughter couldn't understand why the guy looked funny after that. It made me laugh...hope you guys think so too...If not, I don't give a fu<k...LOL
I think its hilarious!!! I try not to knock guys with sportys, at least they ride, but its so easy to joke about them. I met a guy a few weeks ago in a training for work and when we went around the room introducing ourselves he stated that he "liked riding his bike....Harley bike that is not a bicycle..." anyway, on break I asked him what he rode and he puffed his chest out and said he had a brand new sporster. It was funny to watch his chest deflate when I said oh I like riding too, but I just cruise a Road King with 16" apes, but I so wish I had a Sporty for my girlfriend to learn to ride on. He said oh and went on his way. I guess you had to be there it was funny to me LOL.
I like all the HD air cooled families of bikes. So, I bought one of each.
My favorite is the Sportster XR1200. It will out run, handle and brake any of the Dyna, Softail and Touring bikes. It comes in 2nd to the Buell Ulysses XT though.
I never knock any bike from a Royal Enfield to a Ural. But to knock a HD bike should result in excommunication.
my buddy called his old ironhead sporty a chick's dirtbike. my 10 yr old daughter knew this. another buddy with a 1200 sporty sporting about 100 hp(it's a bad mutherfukker) had his bike in the bed of his truck in my driveway. my daughter read the tank and said sportster.... dad, isn't that a girls dirtbike? i was embarrassed a little. nothing wrong with a sporty in my book.
This couple that me and wife are friends with both ride. She has an 883 and he has a 1200. They put some miles on their bikes riding together which is cool.
