whats it like at sturgis the week before - is there still a lot of activity - have most things already opened

i was planning on going the week of, but something came up so i was thinking maybe the week before

 

The week before is, in my opinion, far better that the week of! There will be thousands of bikes in the area, but not so many that you have to wait in lines to get gas. All the attraction you want to ride to will be less crowded. I usually plan it so that I am leaving Sturgis on the day the rally starts. Of course if you are going for all the parties and tittie alley type stuff, you may be dissapointed.

 

Most of the vendors start setting up on the Tues-Wed-Thurs the week before the rally. The roads are much less crowded. The bars are less crowded. You can get a better camping spot. Some of the temporary campground bars do not open until Thurs-Fri. It starts getting much busier on Friday.

Had a great time last year the week before. No traffic, lines, etc.

 

Went the week before in '07, plenty of bikes, vendors,etc. Next time planning on the week after to see how that goes!!

 

A month before is even better.

 

I am going the weekend before also. I want to avoid all the true craziness. I am heading up there (5 hrs from me) on Firday Aug. 6 and coming back on Sun. Should be a good time I think.

 

This will be our first trip to Sturgis. We will be going the week before. I figured it will be plenty exciting as it is, and if not, there's always next year...

 

I'm trying the week after this year.

 

I'm planning on going the last few days before and the first few days after it starts. Should be the best of both worlds.
