Default What about Windex?

so i have read about pledge, and i pledge to you that i will try it but i was wondering about windex. i use it for my windshield, but some gets on my headlight chrome. seems to leave it shiny! can i use this on more than just the windshield? any comments? This may also sound stupid, but i am afraid to give my bike a wash. i prefer to use a wet cloth to wipe it down. paranoid about getting something wet that should not be.

Not sure the ammonia in Windex would work out too well on bikes.

some windex is ammonia free. use it on my denim paint all the time. i would be more concerned with the possibility of scratching the clear coat by just using a damp rag to wipe off the dirt.

as long as you aren't using high pressure spray and aiming directly at sensitive electronics, wheel bearings, etc. you should be fine. whatcha gonna do if you get caught in the rain?

Windex is the "chit" for putting a shine on the chrome after it's allowed to totally dry. Not really that good on paint as it will strip off any wax, but it won't hurt the paint. And 'Ya you're paranoid, your scoot ain't gonna melt if it gets wet. Just don't use a high pressure blast from a pressure washer at a close range. Couple of feet away and you'll be fine.

I have been using Windex for the last 30 years to clean chrome. Now I use it on my denim paint too. I don't think it's too good for a windshield though. I use Maguires final inspection for that.

I've used Windex on everything but the windshield since there is a rumor that Windex can cause windshields to become cloudy. It is especially good on chrome. After several cleanings, I'd apply a paste wax.
This summer I've been trying Lemon Pledge (it was recommended somewhere) hoping for 1 easy step.
It cleans about as well as the windex & I've avoided the dreaded paste wax.

I use it on mine too. Unless I've been riding in the rain and it needs a real bath.

Washing your bike wont damage anything. I use a leaf blower to dry it. Its quick and doesnt leave streaks or water spots. Then I use Starco stainless steel polish on the high profile areas, forks, rims backs of the mirrors, etc. resists finger prints and smudges. It also seems to make bugs come off eaiser on the next wash.
