Heated gear question?
I was thinking of getting a full tour master outfit, gloves, pants, jacket & soles. for my 2010 wide glide can the stock alternator handle this set up?
i'm getting to old to be cold...
thanks

I dont know the exact numbers, but I think that might be too much draw for the stock alternator. I've found that with just the jacket on to warm my core, I've been very comfortable down to the 20's, while wearing good shoes and gloves, ie. insulated and windproof, as well as a couple of layers on the legs. Everyone is different so you might have to decide what 2 pieces of heated gear you'd want the most. I don't have heated pants liners yet, but you can get them from one of the online HD dealers for around $132 plus shipping, ie. Chicago HD.

I have been told the later model touring bikes can actually handle a full set of heated clothing for both a rider and passenger. I use a full set of gerbing and have no problems here

It would be advisable to wear pants while out in public

ok to revisit, went to the dealer and asked them how many amps on my 2010 wide glide, parts guy said 38. now adding all the manufactures amp draw for the gear comes out to...
jacket 6.3 amps
pants 3.5 amps
gloves 2.7 amps
insoles 1.2 amps
for a grand total 13.7
now does anyone know how much amps the bike needs to run?
i could see about switching to LED lights to use less or do you think the alternator has enough to run 13.7 amps?

Yes but I would consider Gerbings as their technology is better and they are more popular/common brand in the heated gear marketplace. My experience with tour-master is their quality is only so/so. Also consider a dual channel controller. IMO a full sleeve jacket liner and heated gloves is awesome in the cold. I have their T5 gloves and they are the best made gloves I've owned. Wear four season motorcycle touring pants (with insulation liners) over long underwear and they keep my legs warm without heat.
