75-80 mph
#11
Was running down the interstate one day and after passing the 100th cage i wondered why everyone was going so slow, looked down and was doing 95, Crap. with a 6th gear it does like to eat up the miles quick..I started just leaving it in 5th gear and doing 70-75.

There are 75 mph speed limits in some areas.
So, your not speeding. Your just in the wrong place.

That 75-80 stuff is pretty much it for my FXST. Any more speed and it feels like it is straining. Unfortunately, Most people in California are going 80 -- 90 on the Interstates. It's no biggie on the Hayabusa, I usually cruise right around 100, but on my wonderful Softail, I need to watch the mirrors closely for someone sneaking up on me in a Prius...

I drive and ride fast so 75-80 is just a normal everyday speed for me on the freeways. I have had some of my old sport bikes over 140 mph and that is moving, but now I alot more relaxed on the high speeds. Now and then I will hot like 100 or so on the XL50, but not too much over that these days.

The group that I ride with, mostly SG's and up, a couple of them have a GPS. We have found out that our speedometers read about 6 MPH higher when you start to get over 65MPH. We found that when we go aproximately 81mph on our speedometers we are only going 75MPH. This is true on the 8 bikes that ride with us. If you have a chance, check your bike out to verify that the speedometer is reading correctly and you might be surprised.

It was an interesting funeral escort for a deceased Marine. State police car, hearse and 30 motorcycles northbound.
