New Bike: FLH Shovel or FXR?
#23
Good afternoon gents. I have stumbled across two pretty good deals on local bikes and wanted your input/tap into your expertise.
Option 1: I have the option to pick up a 1974 Harley FLH shovelhead that is decent shape...needs paint and other cosmetic touch ups but seems to be in good shape. Price: 4800.00 cash
Option 2: I have the option to buy a 85 FXR from an old friend who only rides his new road glide now (2 up). The bike has dual disc brakes on the front, theader exhaust and 8" risers. Overall in decent shape. Price: 5000.
I know that these two bikes are pretty different from an engineering/mechanical standpoint, but, I like them both and cant afford both!
Please provide your valuable input (pros/cons) to each? thanks in advance!

Shovel or FXR? No contest... Shovel all the way.

FXR is a better machine than the Dyna IMO.
And reliability betwen Twin Cams and Evo are not dissimilar.
Finding a good FXR that hasn't been adulterated will be the trick.

ok...ok...I should have listened to you FXR lovers! I have finally given up on the FLH that i bought back in March. I am tired of the repeated oil leaks and other issues : )
dont get me wrong, I love my shovel but if i could afford two bikes i would keep it.
therefore, I am looking at purchasing FXR's and FXDX's again. Are the Twinkies that much more reliable than the EVO's? They are both pretty fairly priced in todays economy.
Input would be appreciated. Thanks!!
