Dunlop D402 Tire

Dunlop D402 Tire
Found out today that the Dunlop D402 tire is made from a different compound mix than the D402 Harley-Davidson tire. A fellow chapter member got 17,000 miles out of a D402 with Harley on the sidewall and 10,000 from a non branded D402. A call to Dunlop confirmed that he HD tire is made with a different compound. So folks, if you want to save some bucks be sure to get the Dunlop with Harely on the sidewall. They last a lot longer.

The 402 on our Heritage goes on the front and can get 20k easy.
the 401 that goes on the rear goes 10-11k (at least the first 3 has) and it also is the HD tire..

I have a brand new rear D402 with the Harley Davidson imprint setting against the workbench waiting on me to change this week. Good price from Jake Wilson so you can definitely buy them on-line. Cannot recall exact price.......$139 - $145 w/free ship (WWW).
The center of current D402 is down to 1/32 only 10K.

I had the 402 in a 21" (06 FXST) & 16" (09 FLSTC). The 21" has been changed twice at 5 & 6K (11K total for 2 tires). They were shot. The 16" on the Heritage was taken off at 5k & still had another 5k left. Wear depends on the size of the tire & bike. Also the D402 is proprietary to HD. I don't believe there is a D402 without HD's name on it.

I have the HD 402 tire w/13,000 mi still showing nearly 6/32nds (rear tire). The 404 looks just like a 402 but does not have the HD Brand on the sidewall. My riding partner put a set of 404's on his 07 RG and at 4000 mi were completely worn out. The 404 is good for a lightweight bike but wears quickly on the heavier bikes. I get good tread wear I think because of keeping the tire pressures where the owners manual recommends.

I have never ran anything but hd402's on my Heritage classic. 12,000 to 14,000 on the rear with tread still able to pass inspection. 20,000 to 26,000 on the front tire. I ran two sets of Metzler's on my Wideglide and I have never been happy with them. Going to Avon's next set.

My first HD D402 rear got 13K then 17K and the last about 17K. Just changed my front after 51K. I think they do all right, but not sure about different composition.
