Default Need Help...Pros/Cons

I have a moral proplem here I cant decide which to buy...any help, advice or suggestions would be appreciated..
Bike #1 2003 Road King Police 30000miles vivid black $12,999
Bike #2 1993 Heritage Softail 4300 miles Black w/orange pinstipes all bags etc. $11000

The road king is at a HD dealer and the other is at a car lot. The story behind the Heritage is that it belonged to a photography studio and was used to take pics with. I am concerned with this as the bike is not broke in, therefore it may develop into problems, once it is rode. But on the other hand is 30000 miles on the road king excessive? Could they both become maintenance nightmares? Both bike are pretty much stock as delivered new. So there isnt any fancy add ons.. I hope someone can help. I need the knowledge and experience of the forum members. Thanks

I vote for finding another that is just right. The market is soft on used Harley's and the closer winter gets, the btter a deal can be found in my opinion. I personally won't buy at a dealer if buying used, but that is jus me. I dunno what state you live in, but try cycletrader.com and check out the whole country. IMHO.

If you are under 60 years old I would go with the Heritage. But as anubiss said you might want to keep looking. Check out www.hdtrader.com

Personally I wouldn't have anything to do with either one. Keep looking. A one or two year old bike with low, low mileage is one thing. A 13 year old bike with that low of mileage would be a huge no-no to me. Likewise the mileage on the 2003 is too much for my likes.

I saw a demo yesterday put on by the local police department motor squad. I learned that I don't want a police bike, especially not one with 30,000 miles on it.

As far as the Heritage, I would not get a Softail of any kind that was not counter balanced. Just too much vibration for my taste.

As someone has already mentioned, ther are a lot of late model, low mileage bikes out there right now, so you should be able to make a better deal than the ones you are looking at.

Regards,

Bill

The EVO engine was a good engine for it's day, I have owned a number of them but would not consider buying one again if it was my only bike. Get a Twin cam and watch the locat papers, bargains on used bikes are available all the time.

If the RK cop bike is in excellent condition mechanically and cosmetically, I would get it for that price. 30,000 miles on a TC 88 does not scare me at all, and for 13K that is a lot of bike you're getting. I would get the 3 year extended service agreement considering it is a used bike and you never can be 100% sure you won't have some problems down the road. After the ES plan expired, I would do a 98" big bore kit with gear drive cams and never have to worry about the cam chain tensioners or cam chain inspection/maintenance problems. I would also put in a BDL 1.5" Kevlar enclosed dry primary belt drive/dry clutch kit.

I don't know where your from but in my area, Green Bay, WI, $13,000 for an RK Police bike with 30K on it is to much $'s. Around here you can pick up a newer model police bike with less than 5K on it for the same price. I bought a 1993 Heritage Softail Classic 2 years ago with 8,800 miles on it for $9,500.
I think you should keep looking, either one doesn't sound all that attractive from my standpoint.

The comments are great, I live in Arkansas and that the prices for ther Heritages are high. I have seen them from $11000 to $14000 from anywhere from a 1993 to a 2004. I would like like to have the 88b. The RK is a police bike that would be great to convert to a RK custom. Yes i agree that the prices are high, I just cant get to the point of a new one. The wife is wanting to ride with, so that is a consideration. She really liked the look of a RK custom. But you cant deny the Heritage in all of its glory. I have looked to TX,KS,OK,MO, and am still getting about the same prices. I just need help too many decisions. Thanks everyone so far..
