Did the oil change in parking lot, dumped oil at store recycle bin left pan behind. All of this within sight of the theiving oil changers tents, fk them. Total cost $50.

Afterwords I seen a church on the bypass street everyone uses offering a place to change oil and wash bike for free, tents and all. Good Christians there.

As others said change before you leave, I was on way back to Fla from Alaska so was due for change.
It's at the Wesleyan church on Junction, just about directly across from the Vintage Bike Sales and about 1/2 mile from Philtown. They have mechanics on duty to change fluids and filters (bring your own), and they also do light repairs as time permits. I've helped a bit over the last few years with carb problems.

The oil change, bike wash and food (brats, tea, chips, ice cream) are all free. They will ask for the chance to pray for you. I haven't seen anyone say no, but I don't think it would be a problem. Get it done early in the week, they close up on Thursday.

In Rapid City on East Omaha Street is a automotive tire dealer that does oil changes during bike week.. They are on the south side of the street a couple blocks past the downtown grain bins.. I do not remember the name of the dealer, but I used them.. They are competant and reasonably priced..

Just carry a case of oil and a few filters with you. Change it every 500 miles or so and you should be able to make the trip without seizing up the motor.

Before and after seems like the best advise.

Even though the church tent seems do-able...Murphy's Law could apply.

It's a 3600 mile round trip from NH. Plus another 11 days of riding around the Black Hills and maybe further treks to other western states. I will need an oil change eventually. That free wash and change is what I was looking for. Thanks for the tip on them closing up by Thursday. I had my rear tire replaced at one of the vendor tents last year. Another big ring up that bit in to my vacation funds. I wish I knew of a convenient reasonably priced Indy shop between NH and Sturgis. Yeah ... I know... having a fresh tire thrown on before I leave would work. I do not want to waste few thousand miles of good tread left on.

3600 miles round trip plus what maybe 1000 riding the black hills? Putting fresh Synthetic in before you leave will easily take you 5000+ miles....... Waste your cash if you want though and change it 4 times

I am from there so I am gonna rib you a little, have you been to South Dakota? Within 100 miles is a whole lot of nothing coming from NH. I agree on changing it before your trip and not worrying about it.

The HD book says change every 5000 miles. Change before you leave and forgetaboutit. At least 7000 miles to 10000 miles on tires if you put new ones on before you leave. HD gives you a oil dipstick for a reason. Take a pint of engine oil with you tightly sealed to add if needed. I don't see the problem. If you are going to spend the money anyway why wait until you get to Sturgis or anywhere in between. Before you leave would be more appropriate, imho. Just saying.

When you are on a long ride even 10,000 miles. The bike can do it okay. Oil is not as contaminated when used like that.

On my Alaska trip two years ago, I started out with the 1K service. When I returned I did the 10K. I did carry a quart with me if needed. It didn't use a drop.
