Default Added a Extra 1/2 Quart

I don't remember who posted this but in effect said the 5 speeds need a extra half quart in the primary.I thought I would try it this time, filling to the bottom of the spring instead of the quart the manuel calls for.It works really good, trans is a lot smoother, alot less cluncking.

I fail to see how the tranny would be smoother with more oil in the primary. At any rate, too much oil is likely to cause some drag and rob you of a pony or two.

Biggest issue with an overfill of oil is that the pressure on the transmission seals exceeds their capability. As a result they develop leaks that only replacing the seals will repair. This may take a while depending on how hard you ride . . . putting sawdust in a gear box will also quiet it down . . . but that doesn't mean it's a good thing to do.

Filling to the bottom of the clutch spring IS the correct amount, I don't get your post.

The manuel calls for 32 ounces.Follwed someones post and added about a half quart more oil to the primary brining the level to the bottom of clutch spring.Big differnce in the way it shifts ,nothing to do with the trans.clutch works a lot better.I thought it funny the newer bikes with the same primary except with no insection cover take more oil.Kind of reminds me of when the Harley manuel called for foot pounds when they meant inch pounds on the cam plate. If you have a 5 speed try it for a couple of days, drain it if you don't like it.My guess is you will leave it like I did.
