Default how long between rear brakes pads

took the ultra into the shop for an early 20k (at 17.5k) and was told that i needed rear brakes pads.

leaving for rt66 - so about 5k i will be putting on the bike

was told they had some life left but would be needed them.

but 17.5k seems early

but - another interesting thing is that my front tire - original - still has plenty of tread left for the trip. and the rear is actually pretty new. had a new one around 16k

anyway - what is the live of brakes on an ultra - front and rear

I've always gotten two rear pads to every set of front pads. I'm at 18K now and will be changing the rears soon on my 10 FLHX. Better to change them early then to wait too long and screw up your rotors.

flhxkiller, are you still on the OEM tires? I just turned 16K on my FLHX and am ready for new rubber and figured the brakes might also need attention. I usually do brake pads when I do tires, seems to work out about right.

Hi mark, maybe we'll cross paths on RT 66. I am planning to start from the east end on the 14 or 15 of June.

Yes still on original tires, not even close to the wearbars yet. planning on replacing them before we head out to Sturgis in August should have 21K plus miles on them by then. I don't mess around when it comes to tires and long trips on the interstate. Plan on replacing wheel bearings at the same time as tires after hearing all the problems with the bearings on this forum also.

Well I have about 2/32nds left on front and rear so I think its time......its easy to get pretty far away from human population down here and dont want to call a tow truck 300 miles away from the nearest rubber tree LOL!

On our Heritage HD did the rear brakes at 16k, whick after I looked at the take offs they could have went another 5-7k easy still had 40% pad left.
I still have the org front pads on with almost 31k, but getting them replaced this week when she go in. Ur Ultra with dual disk I'd think would go more. One friend of mine has over 40k on his org front pads and still going. Don't know bout his rears.

tires, I get 10k on rears and 20k on front.

My rear pads usually go way before the front ones do. I make a conscience effort to use the front brakes more than the rear, but I still unconsciously use them more than I think. Since I started using Lyndall's, I haven't been changing the pads as often as I used to.
