Default Is it time to change oil?

I have an 07 Ultra with 4800 miles. In October 2009 I changed all oil (Mobil V Twin syn) & filter and stored bike until May 2010. I used the bike until September 2010 and then it went back into storage until now. I put about 1200 miles on it last year. Business commitments out of town really screw my riding time.
Should I change oil and filter now or can I ride until October before putting her away?
Thanks

I would change oil & filter also, especially if the 1200 miles were short hops & also since is was sitting for that length of time. No good reason not to..

You should never run oil past 5000 miles or 1 year in the sump of the engine. Primary & trans will be fine by mileage. If you run gear oil in the trans it can go 15,000 miles. I change my trans every 3 years.

+1 - Engine oil should be changed at least once every year, preferably just BEFORE the bike is stored for winter.

Absolutely. Those additives in the oil do not last forever even if not used that often. You also want it stiing with the clean stuff inside.

Engine oil every 5000 miles or once a year. Which ever comes first. Use a good quality oil of your choice and change the other fluids per the schedule.

Service it now, then ride it. You've been a member for 5 years with 555 posts. If I was not the reading kind, I would have blasted you for asking this question as I would presume you are doing a LOT of riding. But...after reading your whole post, I now realize why you have so few posts, and have asked the question. You gotta get out more.
So...yah...service it and ride it. Hope your work load slows down soon.

my bike goes on the lift every winter for maintenance/mods and cleaning. i change all 3 fluids regardless of mileage. engine oil and filter every 5000 during the riding season. i go through alot of oil, but oil is cheap and engines are expensive.
