Old school and too many riders have no heritage. Learned the top of the head pat back in the 60's.

My understanding was that it originally meant highbeams, but then turned into a signal for cops. Anyway, if I see it I assume the po-lice will be around the corner.

Cops are very much aware of the head tap. Thats old news.

I think it depends on the state, but in PA it is illegal to warn oncoming motorists of a speed trap ahead and you can be ticketed for it. This goes for flashing the highbeams in cages, too.

Just west of 7 Springs Ski Resort, southwestern PA...
