Softail solid rear wheel vs dyna spoked rear?
Hey guys what's the deal with the softails getting a solid rear wheel with a front 21" spoked and then you see a dyna wide glide with spoked wheels front and rear matching. I think that's right matching wheels. What's up with not matching them front and rear? Looks like your in the middle of a wheel swap and can only afford one at a time yet they came that way from the MOCO. Someone school me on this please.

My 1986 FXSTC has a spun aluminum rear wheel and spoke 21" front.
A styling choice HD decided to go with on the custom version of the softail.
I've been asked many times if I had added the solid rear wheel.
The FXST came with spoke wheels front and back.

Hmm ok sounds good. The FXST ones I saw must have swapped out the spokes for a solid. It looks cool but also like it was half done too idk I will keep my matching wheels . But front and rear fatboy wheels might look nice.

Cast wheels are a whole lot less maintenance. No tubes and rim strips, just wipe 'em down to clean, no checking spoke tension or worrying about them coming loose, and they tend to handle the torque of starting/stopping a little better than the spokes do.
I like the look of spokes, personally, but cast is a lot easier. I have two bikes, one spoked, one has cast. Sometimes I see the merits in both, but always fall for the looks.

Spoke do look nice when they're clean, but it's a pita to constantly clean them. I prefer the cast wheels just for the fact that they're tubeless and you can plug a flat tire on the road to get you going.
With spokes and a tube it's not so easy to fix a flat on the road.

I hate the look of a spoke rear wheel... I have always had whatever front and a solid rear wheel...
To me a factory rear spoke looks like they gave up and thru a cheap wheel back there to get it out on the floor!
I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't want a bike without a solid rear...
My preference, my choice..

Would be nice to wipe the rear clean if I had a solid wheel and yeah the tube thing could suck with a flat far from home. Thanks for the info guys. I think both look good just prefer my wheels to match that's all. Thanks again!
