When is it okay to touch someone else's bike?

I thought about a note but had no paper on me. I kind of figured this wouldn't be a problem. I just wondered if there were other times where it might be okay...like say you walked out and found someone's bike tipped over? Would you lift it back up? What if their helmet had fallen to the ground, would you place it on their seat?
I know how I would answer those but I'm always curious as to how other's might handle it.

But i'd be more then happy to help the owner pick it up.

I'd do as you did and turn off the headlight. Does more than save battery, it doesn't draw attention to "hey there is a bike all ready to start up and ride away". I'd also pick up a bike that I came across and found on its side, and would hope that one would pick up mine. Same with helmet situation.
If touching someone elses bike whether you know them or not, is for your own self pleasure, only with owners permission....if for the owners gain, I would think it not only permissable but would receive gratitude more times than not. You know there are people that run against the grain. I'll take my chances.

I'm with you on this one. Preventing my battery from draining will get you a beer and a pad on the shoulder. Having your little monkeys mistake my bike for a playground, or getting comfy on my seat, will get you a knuckle sammich.

Seems to be 100% agreement in that situation.
Now, what if some one parks their bike in such a way that you can not move your bike safely when you are prepared to leave.
This has happened a few times at large events. It was usually just a matter of inches.
What say you, will you move a bike out of your way so you can be on your way?
