firefighter3666,
Which model of the Shure earbuds do you have? I have looked at the E2c and the E3c models.

I have the E2c and they are great. They wrap over your ear so the cord goes down your back. I usually run the cord inside my jacket or shirt. They come with a bunch of different buds so you can use the ones that fit the best. I paid $73 inculding shipping from Amazon. I experience very little wind noise with them at 70+mph. I have an Ipod 30g and I use a belt clip.
IPods load on Linux like another storage area, so I can loadone using dragNdrop OR a neat script that will rip CDs to MP3 and transfer them to the IPod. When I finally get the drive to do so, I am going to digitize my entire CD library into a database and then I can script in loads by genre/artist.
This should work for most MP3 players on Linux, too.

cwilson,
Thanks,..... I've been looking at the E2, E3, and E4 models, but if the E2 model has good noise canceling I will definately go with the less expensive ones. Cause I have found the E2 for $79, the E3 for $129, and the E4 for $299.

Anybody have problems with the volume blasting your ears when you come to a stop light or stop and go traffic. Fiddling with those small buttons to turn the volume up and down is a pain in the a$$.
We need someone to invent an auto volume control for headphones like GM has in there autos.

For my ride from Mineapolis to Sturgis (670 miles) I used an iPod Nano strapped to my forearm with the headphone cord running up my sleeve.
iPod makes a velcro strap for runners that works great for bikers.

Also upgraded my headphones to Shure, by far and away the best earphones.

And in theory if someone was good enough at electronics you could devise a doo-dad that would do the thing the GM radios does. They change the volume based on the RPM of the vehicle. I think they call it SCP (Speed Compensated Volume). The higher the RPM the higher the volume goes. So if someone could make a little black box that went on the harley... and monitored the RPMs... You could have the black box plugged into the bike's tach and then one 1/4" jack to go to the ipod and another to go to a headset. Then you would be plugging into this black box and not the ipod. On a bagger this would probably be pretty cool... You could store the ipod in the bags and then put the ear phone connection up elsewhere.
Or... you can get a set of headphones that have the volume control on the cable of the headset... Some have a wheel instead of buttons... I would think that would be easier to control... you just have to give your access to the cord.
When iPods first came out Jeff Burton (I think that was his name.... Snowboarder). He had a jacket out in his clothing like that had the controls for the iPod built into the sleeve... You plugged the jacket into the iPod and the headset into the jacket. Then on the sleeve there was a flap that would go up and you had access to the iPod controls. VERY cool thing. I am sure someone could do it to a leather jacket...
cannot find a good pic of the jacket... and they do not make it anymore...
I think someone could make some $$$ if they marketed this to the motorcycle crowd.

UPDATE:
My bad... they call it something else now... Used to be called the Burton AMP...
