Tank Nameplate Install

Tank Nameplate Install
Any suggestions on installation of new gas tank nameplates. So far my plan is to locate one side and then measure off its location so as to mirror the other side. I was going badgeless but decided the tank needed something. I picked the early 60s Northstar nameplate.

RE: Tank Nameplate Install
my flhpi came badgeless. i used photos of a standard road king tank and measured from the front of the tank to the front of the V decal, determined the distance from the fuel cap to the decal, the distance from the chrome dash to the rear of the decal. this got me pretty close using those dimensions on both sides. it is rare for a harley decal or badge to be parallel to the ground. you may see many applied that way and i always notice them as i walk up. i used a grease pencil to make my line up marks. on a dark tank i'd use masking tapefor the grease pencil marks. using a badge as you are is easier than the decal. you can use masking tape to temporarily install the badge and walk away some to look over the results and move around to suit your taste.

Wouldn't you say that the nameplate (badge) should run on an up angle from rear to front i.e. going with flow of the tank? I hope I made that clear.

I would prefer mine to be at some sort of an angle....let's say for instance, the bottom of the tank is 0 degrees and the top is at 20 degrees....i would put my badge on at 10 degrees...
Or so i think, i guess the tape it and stand back and look method would be best....find what suits you and run with it.
