Default 2008 Softail Deluxe, 5000 mile service

Recently purchased an 08 Deluxe with 4,600 miles on it. Oil is showing to be below middle range on dipstick. Am thinkinking about just going ahead with the 5000 mile service before I start riding it much to be on the safe side. Don't know if Syn3 has been used in the past. Would it be ok to just add a little 20w-50 until I get it to service and then go full synthetic? All suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Lance

I'd go ahead and service it now and go full synthetic.

Ditto. You might as well do it now. The 5000 mile service is change the oil and filter and then check critical fasteners, exhaust, air cleaner, tires, etc. You should also check the spokes for tightness. A torque spoke wrench makes that job easy.

Thanks for the advice. Also....this is my first Harley and was wondering if it is normal for the engine to be pretty hot after just a short ride around town. Like I said it seems to be a little low on oil (Is showing at the "add oil mark"). Will probably not ride it again until I can find some oil (Very small town!).
