Default Do I want a Sportster 883 L?

I have gone through a VINO125 in 3 weeks, and have had a Morphous 250 for a couple thousand miles (5 months). I really love the scooter, its great for hauling stuff around town (Houston) but not so quick for the freeways and its a bit strenuous for solo trips to the lakehouse (80 miles each way). Ultimately I'd like to travel around with wife probably no farther than 200 miles each way), but so far I haven't even gotten her on the back of the Morf. We would probably keep it as a dingy for the RV and she has taken the MSF course with me and warmed up a bit to MC's.
So....have been looking at Yamaha Star Silverado 650and Honda Shadow Spirit. I'm short legged (28 inch inseam which explains the Morf). I'm 180lb, 5' 6" and can handle the 400 lb of the Morf just fine...no problem.
Questions...Is the 883 L the right bike for me? Can you replace the seat with something the wife would find secure and comfortable? What do folks think about the fuel injection on the 2007? Can you put neat aftermarket things on like saddlebags, passenger backrest? What else should I consider? I'm a bit reluctant with my limited experience to get the larger engine...I don't want to do wheelie's by accident. But I would like a bit more get up and go. I don't like noise or excessive vibration as my hands go numb even driving a car.

Advice would be greatfully received.

Wheelies? You expect a 1200 Sporty to pull up it's front wheel? Wheelies? You got a better chance doing stoppies! Wheelies!!

Wheelies!!!!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!!!

That was funny. Anyway, I rode with someone today about that size.Asked him if he liked his Sportster and he said it was the perfect bike for him considering his size....definately a great starter bike. And no, I gurantee you won't be riding any wheelies....

come on dudes...if I wasn't ignorant, I wouldn't be asking. I accidently did a wheelie coming from a Ducati 125 to a BSA 400 about 35 years ago.

Sorry, just havin some fun. We could hang about 300llbs off the rear fender...

Highly recommend fuel injection.

Nice bike for your size.

I'd get the 1200.

Check www.h-d.com, Kuryakyn, www.jpcycles.com to see what you can put on it..

Sorry just having some fun!! Anyway, the dealerships here at least once a month have a day you can go "test ride" the diffrent models. I would recommend that before any purchase if that is available to you. I think the 883, given your size is a very nice choice...

Mark, I'm height challenged as well. Try the 1200 custom. I sat on one the other day at the dealer and I was impressed. I'm in the market for a barhopper. The 1200 custom and the Wide Glide are on the top of my list to choose from. Don't worry about wheelies. They are too heavy for that. I dont know if it could be done by trying hard but I know it isn't going to pull up the front end suprisingly. I'd also go with the 1200 if you plan on 2up traveling.

I have and recommend the 1200. I can ride a 1200 as slow as you or anyone else can ride an 883. Plus if you want to haul you and your wife around, the 1200 will be better. Do enough research in these forums and you will see alot of posts by people who had 883's and wished they had bought 1200's. I don't think you will find one post by anyone who bought a 1200 and wished they had bought an 883.

I'm not aware of any accessory that's not available for the Sportster that you can get on any other Harley. I have mine rigged up like a mini-Road King. I have Quick detach windshield, leather windshield bag, Harley leather saddle bags, mini-rail back rest, pad and billett plate cover, rider and passenger pegs, voltage regulator cover, front axle cover, engine guard (crash bars) and grips. There would be more but that is all I want
