Stage 1 question
Thinking about getting a stage 1 with my 10,000 mile service but had a few ?'s. My dealer's trying to charge me 4 hours labor to do a SERT, dyno and air cleaner with no pipes, already have Rush 2" slip ons. Does this sound about right? Also is the dynotune neccasary with a stage 1? Friend says there is no need for dyno.
They're going to say it needs everything because it's money in their pocket...just like roofers, TV guys, doctors...you get the picture.
Does it really need it? What does the manual say? If you don't have one, you might see what others say because I don't have a clue.

I just had the stage 1 with screaming eagle pro tuner (replaced the race tuner) (dealer installed) along with v&h br 2-2 (i installed) done on my bike.
The dealership doesn't have a dyno.
I've put 9k miles on my bike in the last 4 months so i have good idea of how it ran before.
It's like owning a totally different bike in a good way now.
I don't know if they just know what caned map to choose or if they know how to tune that setup.......... i do know it made a great difference.
They told me when the mobile dyno truck comes around that he can get it tuned to "perfect" but they doubt i'll notice the significant change i do now.
They charged me for 1 hr to install the stg1 breather and sept.
Best ~ i can tell gas mileage has stayed the same 38 on my daily commute(31miles each way) it'll be 2 weeks before i get to go on a long highway ride.
So my novice opinion based on my experience and what i've read is if the guy tuning it knows what he's doing / has tuned that setup before a dyno probably isn't necessary unless you need / want it tuned to perfection.

I agree, open up the air cleaner and do the download. IMO If you're not at least changing cams a Dyno tune is a waste of money.
I put the money towards a T-max auto tuner, that way it is adjustable with future add ons and never need a dyno. Once you start tinkering there's no end - I would hate to think how many times I would have to pay for a dyno with current and future mods

I put on SE breather, and cycle shacks on my sporty. I went to the dealer the next day and they did the download. Was 150 and 30 for labor. Ran well for a couple months now getting a little decel popping and some hesitation. Just ordered the X14ieds. Will see. I did read on the night rider sight where they sell the IEDs that you don't need the download for just A/c and pipes. The state that its old school thought and that the newer bikes ECM will adjust. Not sure.
I have V&H slip-ons, SE stage 1 breather, SE Pro Super Tuner, and have had those items installed from the beginning, then I had it dyno tuned at the 1,000 service.
Your slip-ons are fine, definitely recommend the breather. Get the Pro Super Tuner, not the the download or the Street Performance Tuner...both are a waste of time and money.
The Pro Tuner is awesome and the bike ran good with the stage 1 set-up, but after I had it dyno tuned, it runs awesome! Having it dyno tuned with the pro tuner allowed them to dial the AFRs and timing tables in perfect, and it was the best money spent on my bike.
Tuner is $459 and dyno was $350, so I have about $800 in my tune. Is it worth it....you bet your *** it is! A good dyno tune makes all the difference in the world. Those who disagree have never had a good dyno tune, so they don't know what they're missing.
Don't skimp out with a download or piggyback tuner or something half-***. If you're going to do it, do it right with the SEPST or TTS Mastertune, and get it dynoed!
You'll thank me later..
