Default new to tpuring models

been riding for 30+ years and finally broke down and bought a bagger (still have my softail though). a 2005 electra glide. bought it as a total and redone it. you can see both before and after pics in my gallery. anyway, in August i'm planning a trip from northern indiana to pueblo co. and then down to florida then back home. the bike has 21xxx miles and runs great. i will be pulling a small HF trailer loaded with about 250lbs of camping gear. my question is since this is a FI engine there should be no adjustments that i will need to do during the trip from low elev. to high and back to low. right? This will be the maiden Voyage since the total rebuild( Bike not Motor) on it. I'm sure of my work and have all the confidence of knowing i will have no troubles. however, i would like some input from the veteran tour riders about the effects of pulling a trailer and the elevation changes. I've been planning this trip since i was home in dec and got the bike going. now i have to wait till my next R&R and 2 days after I'm home, I'm gone. Can't wait. Have been in Afghanistan since dec 2011 and was in Iraq from Feb 2009 till dec 2011 so I need to hit the road and not look back for a while. I may even just stay home after the trip and not return to this hell hole.

the original owners wife was pissed at him and put lighter fluid on the seat. She thought it would burn out not thinking about the vinyl seat feeding the fire. the back half was ingulfed when he got to it. I was lucky. it never burned below the seat so all wiring was still like new. just had alot of cosmetic repair.

The EFI should work great but I don't know anything about pulling bike trailers. When you're in Pueblo, you should chart a course to Pike's Peak, then take Hwy 24 from there and follow the scenic routes across the continental divide and back down the west side, if you have the time.

needless to say... go over everything with a fine eye, torque check everything you can get a socket on, lube it, wax it. Id add an oil cooler for sure & take a box of spare parts.. bulbs, plugs, tool kit, wet weather gear, etc.....If you need them putting on a set of Dunlop E3 tires, they offer good mileage, high load capacity & are good for towing.

Have fun

No need to do adjustments on the bike, it will take care of itself in the elevation change. Enjoy the trip, sounds like a great time.

i always takes spare bulbs, fuse, and plugs. just ordered a new small tool kit that hopefully will have what i need to do simple repairs. the tires that are on it are new but the original style that came on the bike. so gonna run those till need more. have a oil cooler arleady so i'm good on that.

thanks for the heads up. running a tour bike will be different for me. I love my softail but it's not for long rides.
