Now that the warmer weather is here alot of us have taken our scoots out of storage and have hit the road again. If you bike's headlights don't come on when you start your bike normally Please turn them on! This weekend there was a big run taking place and I can't tell you how many didn't have headlights on. It's for safety and it does make a difference in your visibility. Hope everyone here has a safe riding season!
I though beginning in 1978 it was law for all motorcycle manufacturers to build bikes that automatically had headlights come on when ignition is on. Must have been an awful lot of pre 1978 bikes out there.
Studies show that the headlight requirements make little difference anymore- daytime running lights on standard vehicles wash us out in traffic.
+1
Defensive riding is far more important.
I had a quick search to try and find a study I read a few years ago. Basically it found that daylight running lights made it harder for other road users to see motorcyclists.
I still remember the picture of a bike riding with DRL in front of a car with DRL and the bike was roughly in the position of the cars offside headlight. The result was the motorcycle was damn near invisible!
I like the headlight modulators you guys use but I think they are illegal here plus a flash of headlights is seen as an invitation to pull out.
Low beam and aux lights all the time. The idea that headlights make motorcyclists less visible is nonsense imo. I don't care what stupid study came up with that crap.

I'd be interested to know how a headlight modulator would effect that. I believe our eyes are trained to detect movement and the blinking headlight would simulate that movement with the contrast.
