Default No CA EPA Cert

I sold my 2006 Wide Glide to a guy in California.
He just told me that the MV department refused to allow him to register it since it did not have a CA EPA certification.
The bike was not purchased in CA.
How can I help him resolve that problem.

If the bike is from another country (Canada?) There is nothing you can do unless it is EPA certified. If it is from any of the other 49 states it needs to have over 7500 miles on it. If that is the case it can be registered in CA and the clerk at DMV is wrong and he needs to speak to a manager.

More info is needed here.

It has over 7500 miles, doesn't it? Then it shouldn't be an issue. I don't know about the Canada part.

Also, if he is military and bought the bike while residing in another state or bought the bike to replace one that was damaged, stolen or broke down it can be registered here with under 7,500 miles.

The people at DMV are not the best and the brightest so mistakes are often made in this area.

Provide the info and I will tell you if it and how can be done.

If he is expecting to get accurate info, I suggest go anywhere but the dmv!! they will tell you anything to blow you out the door with the least amount of work on their part

Like has already been stated, DMV clerks are often clueless. I have had to get supervisors involved in the past when registering vehicles.

Should have seen how confused they were when I went in to get an endorsement to haul a fifth wheel. Only one guy in the place knew what I was talking about. I brought copies of their book with me in preparation for this. Do your homework and come armed with the info.

I had to get a one way pass for a vehicle registered in Arizona, when I was taking it to my house out there. The clerk insisted I did not need a pass. I had to show her in the vehicle code where it said all vehicles operated in Cali must be registered in Cali if the driver has a Cali DL. She was absolutely clueless.
