If I sell something I figure the fee into what I am selling. I don't expect anyone to gift me the money and miss out on their buyer protection.

Be 96.7 % happy. If there are no guarantees with sending a gift payment I wouldn't have risked doing it either.

Look at the bright side of things, the more you cry, the less you have to ****. lol

Have you spoken to him and asked for him to cover it or did you just hop on here to vent? Try asking him to send it.....

...and from now on....http://thefeecalculator.com/

Never gift a Paypal payment....especially that amount.....there is no recourse then.

Just explain it to the buyer and ask him to send another 20 bucks.
He probably didn't realize

Good point, same here.

Also OP, you could've indicated that to the buyer in the transaction.
You could always check your account prior to shipping to see "how much" you actually received, and if you "got stuck" you could always refund the buyer or ask him for $20 more?
Never the less you sold your item.
Would've you sold your item for $20 dollars less(or a 3% discount) just to sell it?
If so, then don't whine about it.
It is what it is.

It's only $20 but what the hell! What would you do?
1. We all DON'T know to gift a PayPal payment. Frankly, as mentioned numerous times in posts to this thread, it is a bad idea since the buyer has no recourse.
2. The buyer didn't stick you with the fee, PayPal did

You assumed the buyer would send the payment as a gift and you made an *** out of yourself. If you didn't make it clear there would be a $20 "transaction fee" then don't bitch when your hit with it.

It's your fault. Stop whining and get over it.

A sticky on all (?) classified pages:
PayPal Precautions If the seller of an item in the HDF Classifieds asks you to list the payment as "Gift" then you lose all protection through PayPal and you are giving up your rights to resolution.

The seller has to pay a fee if you use the standard reason and that is their responsibility, not yours. they should adjust the cost to cover that.

We have had several people ripped off lately due to this problem. Gift should only be used for trusted friends or family members, not strangers in a classified section.

HDF Classifieds is a "use at your own risk," "free to the members" section and we (HDF) are not responsible for any losses due to transaction problems.

given all that I always ask for the total price with shipping including pp fees. A deal breaker has occured thrice when seller gave me a total then said I'd have to pay more after a price was agreed.
To me it's a measure of integrity.
How difficult is it to add 3% more to an asking price, or, when negotiating a price keep in mind there is 3% in there.
I'll not buy new or used goods without protection from unknown people due to the variance in how sellers handle problems or condition issues.
