Default Stuck it to me with the fee

Everybody buys and sells parts on here. Nobody is trying to get rich off anybody else on here. Good parts at fair prices I say. We all know to gift a PayPal payment to waive the fees. So I sold a nice item for a more than fair price for $600, I got the payment received notification. Next day I go on the account and the guy who bought the item stuck me with the fee! It's only $20 but what the hell! What would you do?

I personally dont know anything about gift payments with paypal. Did you discuss the payment options with him prior to the sale?

I don't use Paypal. I didn't even know someone has to pay a fee. Is this for all transactions?

I'd cuss a bit and move on. Paying as a gift removes all of PayPal's guarantees, as I understand it, and many buyers aren't going to be cool with that on a $600 purchase. It's entirely your choice to make, but it's fairly unbelievable how much easier my life has gotten since I made the decision to stop worrying over little things like $20 and someone "getting one over on me." If you guys agreed to do a gift payment beforehand and he went the other route, that shows pretty weak character on his part.

if you didn't get the fees he would have even as a gift..

all the gift would have done is stuck him with the fees and no recourse if the seller were les than honest (not saying you were)

.. no such thing as a free lunch...

Well if he changed his mind, not much you can do.Is it worth $20 to back out?
Just comes down to trusting a stranger.

I never ship until payment clears so...then you have the option to reject. Have you sent the part? If not = negotiate w/buyer & press-on, if it's a deal-breaker...JMO.

I wouldn't pay anybody with a "gift" on paypal. If I know you I'll hand you cash but if you expect somebody to trust you with their money they must be pretty naïve. Especially that kinda money and having no idea where you live. I've heard enough horror stories of people fighting to get merchandise or money back using the correct payment if you choose gift you have NO recourse, don't even call or bitch. Plus honestly I don't post a lot but even I don't trust low post counts when the majority are in the classifieds. Also I factor in what fees I'll pay before I agree to price. If you don't want to pay to play and use the services that protect you and the person who's giving you their hard earned money (no matter how great of a deal your giving them) you should stick to local sales in person on your local CL.

We don't all "know" that unless the seller states that up front.

I wasn't aware either. Probably should have made it clear up front.
