Default GPS Units

Ok guys just asking some advise about GPS units , really don't want to buy a large screen , big dollar unit ! I have the option in my H/K radio , but the module and wiring are in the area of 800.00 and the big screen garmin is about 650.00. Wondering if anyone else uses other cheap units an how they work ? I would like to get a set of SENA wireless helmet communication , with a cheaper GPS unit !

Been using cheap Garmin units for years now on my bikes with no issues. I mount it with a Techmount mount with velcro backing, same way I've been doing for years.

I currently have a Nuvi 1490 I use on my current bike. Works great, and you can connect a bluetooth headset, but I don't use the bluetooth on it. I use my phone's bluetooth for music to my Scala headset when I want music, although I can probably connect the phone to the garmin and then the garmin to the Scala headset... but not worth the hassle to me ;-).

I use a Tom Tom unit I bought at Sam's some years back. Cost me like $75 I think. Bought a connecting wire, plug it in and go. Works good when I get lost.

If your thinking about an inexpensive automotive type GPS, don't plan on the SENA (or any other motorcycle Bluetooth headset) interfacing with the GPS via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth scheme is different for automotive GPS and morotcycle GPS units.

Phone GPS only works when the phone has signal right? How well will that work in remote areas and in the mountains?

My thoughts exactly, and you can use your Sena for turn by turn directions.

Thought of the cell phone , but then you are getting it threw cell service . A GPS you get it threw the satellite . I was told better and faster directions!

I have a Garmin Nuvi 50LM. It was around $100 and I use it with a Ram mount on my handlebars. My smart phone loses its signal all the time in the mountains but the Garmin does great!

I have a nexus . i use a scalarider g 9 and use my smartphone and gps on trip to places i have never been before , never had a problem as the gps in the unit works off Satellites , hence , Gps does not work off cell signal last i heard . The only issue is you do pay data so if your plan does not have enough required data make sure you get a trip package from your smartphone provider .
