I had this happen on the 19" on my CVO SG this is quite common on those tires. I just thought it was because of the low profile side wall. But either way it's covered. Change them man. No way in hell I'm going to believe it is OK to run em.

 

I just removed a nearly new set of blackwall Michelin Commander II's that I could part with for next to nothing....

They are the hardest new tire I have ever owned and least predictable in corners. Scared me more than once so went back with a new set of Dunlop 402's last week. If you have any tendancy to ride hard I would seriously get more feedback before you make this investment.

 

How old were the tires when you bought them..???

 

I'll assume you are asking me....Don't know for sure as I never checked a date code. Purchased from J&P new. I also purchased the Dunlops that I replaced the Michelins with last weekend from J&P. Over the years purchased many new Dunlops there with no problems. Wasn't the case with the Michelin Commander II's. I should have known there might be a problem when my buddy said he quit selling them in his shop for many different reasons.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Michelin's. That's why I was planning on using those if Dunlop won't replace it

 

Yeah, me too which is why I purchased the Michelin Commander II's. I bought into the concept of purchasing a brand name tire with twice the mileage while saving maybe $50. Anyway I did not get what I thought I was purchasing so went back to Dunlops. The dealership that mounted and balanced the new tires last weekend told me they thought Michelin had a good handle on the light to mid weight needs but had not worked out the heavyweight touring segment yet. Not sure I understand how load capacity correlates to grip but anyway i am back to stay with the Dunlops.
Hope you have better luck than others have had....

Got some good used Michelin Commander II's for sale, cheap. 130-90 16 Front and Rear blackwall, touring load range, in Northern Indiana

 

I am running Metzlers on my bike, my Son is running Avons, both have proven to be good tires.

No sidewall cracks or dryrot on either set.

 

I went to the dealership yesterday to get some parts and while I was there I asked the service manager to look at the tire. I'll give you one guess what he said about it.



"That's normal and it's only cosmetic"


I couldn't help but laugh. I guess MC2's are in my near future
