If you ride those kind of miles on a regular basis, the SG is the only way to go. JR

Seems you are never offered near as much on trades as what you can sell bikes for yourself. Hope the give you a good deal.

I went from sportbikes to Harleys and love the fatbob. Seems to be handle better than a lot of others and two disc brakes up front rather then only one on most others makes a difference for me.

Rent a cruiser (SB?) for 1/2 a day, and a bagger (SG?) for 1/2 a day and put a couple of hundred miles on each. Then you'll be able to way the pros and cons as to which works best for you.

I'm sure you'll like some things more on one style and some other things on the other so it still may be a tough decision but at least you'll know first hand.

BTW, that's why some of us like having more than one bike.

Good luck!

I'll just tell you what My Son did.. He was 29 back in 07, doesn't have any medical problems and has worked out 3 days a week and runs the other 4 days, for yrs. he's 5'11' and is a solid 185.

He owned and rode, (2) 650's and (1) 750 KAW's from 1998- 2007

He bought a New Deuce in 07, cause it felt right and looked good. After riding for two hr his back was hurting and he'd go in for the day..

Then in 09 He traded for a new 09 NT.. cause it looked better and felt better. Now he could ride almost 3hrs before his back started hurting. and he was done for the day..

So in 2010, wanting to ride longer, he traded his NT in for an new 10 Street-G.. Since day one he can ride all day without any pain.. He's taken 2-3 trips every yr since he bought it that's over 2k miles and usually 6 days long.

Results may vary.. but you couldn't get him to buy anything else at the present time.

Just thought of something else.. last yrs the son said one of the guys he rides with let him use one of his Ultra seats (he has a Trike and a bike) for the trip they took, he did say the Ultra seat was a lot better.

Also foot pegs.. HD's fully adjustable ones. not cheap. but worth the coin..
Son had his since new, and he got me some 2 yrs ago for Christmas..
He also told me how great they were, I really didn't believe it'd make much diff,,, till,,, I put them on my Heritage.

Night and Day difference in comfort on those 7-8-9 hr long rides every day, Now I am a believer in them.
Done away with 99% of discomfort in my Knees, Hips and back on this ole 64 yr old body. Stretching out and changing your leg positions makes a BIG difference than just using the floorboards on those long rides

Tuff call. On the one hand anything will be comfortable after a Busa and you are young, on the other hand? You'll be on a bagger sooner or later. If you like to flip your vehicles go with the Breakout. Especially if you don't like to mod. If you like to keep things forever I'm thinking SG. Considering what you are used to the RK might be the way to go too.

I bought an '09 in late '08. I was relatively young (well under 40). I was torn between a chromed out Rocker (equivalent to a Breakout) or a Electra Glide/SG. About the same price but one looked bad *** and one had everything to rack up endless miles. You can tell what I did and never second guessed myself. I'll be happy to own this the rest of my life. I'll continue to make changes along the way.

Batwings can be put on RK's. You can do anything to an RK. It is the ultimate blank canvas. Considering the riding you are used to this would be a cheaper way to get in and you can do what you want as money/time allows.

I just did slightly less than 500 miles on a single day trip and would of been happy to keep right on going. With the stock seat there isn't much room for a passenger though.

I rode SportBikes for years...CBR, 'Busa, R1, etc...

When I moved from a literbike to an H-D, it came after riding my Pop's custom SoftTail. I borrowed it for a few months until I found the Road King I'm currently on.

While the Softtail did have that 'Harley feel' that you are referring to...now that I have that Road King, I can't imagine having (bought) anything other than a touring bike as my first Harley.

I would totally recommend the Street Glide.

You have years to 'make it your own' and add parts as you can afford.

Many people decide to 'wait' for a bagger...why not just get it to begin with?

If it was me I would choose the Street Glide and not look back. The 96" isnt a deal breaker, as money and time permits you can tune and mod as you see fit. And if you take a passenger she will be much happier on the touring size bike.

With the mileage your doing I would guess that your eventually going to end up on a SG. Might as well save a lot of time and $$ and get it now. I love mine around town and on the highway. You will love it.
