I stand corrected...

My old '99 seemed to be all steel. And the baker dd6 had hardened chrome finish on the forks, if I'm not mistaken. Gotta update myself sometimes!

I read most of your thread, interesting stuff!

6 speed Limited 2014.
The brass on the forks you're showing look very thin. It's a soft metal probably to protect the other harder sliding part.
I think the most important is not to have brass gears or bushings.

Like I said, I wouldnt worry about it. Been using a GL-5 for years and I dont think it caused the flaking on mine. Having 128k on the tranny had more to do with it. Not sure what a HD tech would have to say though.

Just found the 'shift shaft sleeve' on the newer models...

My old '99 wasn't that advanced!

Weird vibrations in the engine were actualy every bearing being worn out in the tranny. Shoulda done it at 100k. It was pretty cheep to re build and easy.

In those days they probably did'nt know that the lub at over 185F was eating the gears.

Trust me having run the old ones since the 70's and I am a harley mechanic it doesn't have any impact on anything in your bike's trans. it would take years to begin breaking things down . Don't over think it , it's a non issue ........
