Default Nostalgia

hi Folks

I was looking through some old photos yesterday and thought that you might like to see my attempt at a chopper in the early 1970's when I was eighteen. It was after watching Easy Rider with Dennis hopper & Peter Fonda that inspired me to have a go !

The Bike is a 1950's Triumph Thunderbird (Harley's were hard to find in ther UK then)

Pre unit Construction
Slick Shift Gear box
Sprung rear Hub
5" Rear tyre
High Foot pegs (Knightmare to find in UK)
Header pipes only (very noisy)

With the UK bike market being predominantly standard Triumphs, BSA's & Nortons with the odd Jap bike now and again this did turn a few heads especially the cops ! It was a great babe magnet as well.

Now that I am 50 and riding an 05 Heritage I am starting to get the urge to track down an old Harley and try my hand at chop building again (If I can convince the Wife !)

Mate! What a beast. I'll bet you wish you still had it tucked away in the back shed.

Bet it had a pretty good weight transfer to the rear on take-off!

Hi sounder

It would pull the most incredible wheelies without any effort and yes I wish it was still in the shed along with the BSA Gold Star, Triumph Sports Cub & the BSA Rocket. I did like one Jap bike very much and that was my Suzuki 705cc Water Cooled Tripple. It handled as though it had a hinge between the front & rear wheels but the fear and the adrenaline when your young was what it was all about.

Thanks for the pic of your chopper. That looks like quite a bike that you had. I can see why it would have been easy to do wheelies on it.

That's a great pic, man. I love how the kick stand is resting on the curb just to get it to stay up. Thanks for sharing!!!
