Super bad gas mileage while on Sturgis Trip
#21
Nothing to do with Gas Mileage, but was just down in your area a couple week ago, nice area, great ride between there and the East Coast....Hocking Hills....was very cool....as for the topic....Stock 2001 Heritage Springer gets lows 40's pretty much coast to coast.

I have a 2013 Road Glide with 103 and engine mods. I have experienced an average of 240 on my rides with riding fast, and really working the bike. I rarely
Go less than 80 on the freeways and love cracking the throttle. Anyway, as I ride through Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota my fuel mileage dropped to 160 tank!
I can't believe how bad the gas is. I'm figuring they use a lot of ethanol, water and whatever else they have laying around to dump in the tanks. 85 octane ? That's poor quality fuel and I'm sure lawn mowers don't even recommend that octane. The super premium is 91 octane and the mid was 87, sometimes 89.
Did anyone else suffer a substantial loss of mileage? I feel bad for the guys who don't have a gauge and rely on mileage to decide when to fill up.

We just got back from sturgis last night and the first couple highway tanks me and my buddy both noticed a substantial drop in mileage compared to the trip there. We both ran the numbers and both ended up with almost exactly a 12% drop in mileage. I'm a stage 1 88" softail he rides an 03 triumph speed master. We chalked it up to very dirty air filters as we had rode on a lot of gravel paved dirt roads while there. We'll as we got closer to home (dayton Ohio) the problem seemed to fix its self. We figured maybe shitty gas?, altitude?changes?, voodoo? I'm open to any other theories.
