Charging system FUBAR?

Charging system FUBAR?
ok, tonight I'm riding along, minding my own business, when the volt gauge drops to about 11v. Get it somewhere safe, check the obvious, but nothing jumps out. Decided to ride it home on the battery, and troubleshoot it there. Got home, pulled out the trusty multimeter and went to check the stator output voltage. Lo and behold, the stator side connector where it connects to the voltage regulator is split in half, and the wires inside, aint connected no more to the regulator side. Just for ***** and giggles, I plugged the now unshielded connectors together and fired up the bike. I now have about 13ish volts while running. Not totally surprising as the battery is a bit on the discharged side from the ride home
What are the chances I have either fried the stator, or the regulator?
both are about 11 months old, and the stator at least should be under warranty (cycle electric). if the regulator is fried, I have a spare on the shelf.

Pop over to the Tech Electrical section, where you will find Stickies on checking your charging system. You may be limited in what you can do, because of the damaged connector, but you should be able to check the alternator itself. A new regulator may well be in your near future, but knowledge is power, so test and check as best you can.

Looks like I may have lucked out with just a connector with a split personality. Local dealer had one in stock, so I replaced it thus morning. Ran the standard electrical tests, and all seems well. Stator is still pumping out copious amounts of AC voltage, and regulator is breaking it down to 14vDC with everything up and running. Only real downside is the connector was 30 freaking bucks, so I'm walking a bit bow legged, but at least I'm fixed and riding again
