Do you have time to have them changed out before you head out?
I always put new tires (at least the rear tire) on before cross country trips.
I don't want to deal with appointments, either making them or waiting for the work to be done while on a trip.
When riding in bad weather the last thing I want to be thinking of is having a tire changed...
It isn't a big deal if I have tires changed with miles on them. Just don't want the hassle during a trip.

Have a great trip, sounds like it will be a good time.
I think it has been wet just about everywhere. Stay dry and safe.

I can tell you from experience that tires wear out exponentially on a road trip. Years ago I did a SF to SD to SF trip, figured I had plenty of life left to deal with it when I got home. Got to LA and the rear was showing cord.

Do it now

If I have 50% or less, I put new rubber on both ends before a long trip.

i had contact with Salt Lake City H-D dealer. I will get there I will have about 19,000 miles on tires then. It should be fine, just asking if anybody has dealt with them before, if there is a great dealer out there that is a good place to stop and get service. I will check the tires thread real close and make my mind up.

Have you gotten 19,000 miles on a rear tire before?

Others also only have had 10,000 miles on a set of tires....
Aren't all H-D dealerships fair, good, trustworthy to do a good job?
I bet there is a good dealership in the Boston/ Quincy area that would take care of this tire for you and then you wouldn't need to think about it and just enjoy your trip.
Sitting on the side of the road somewhere with tire issues to me seems like a lonely experience, especially if you end up waiting for a tow. (what towing company would you trust to tow your bike in an unfamiliar area?)
One that could have been avoided just doesn't seem smart to me.
I would rather put money into new tires rather than a deductible...

14,000 miles on tires now the most i ever got. My tread depth is 3/32 inch, H-D recommends 1/32 inch is time to change.

Maybe it's me ... BUT ... it seems the OP's concern is with the quality of service available in Salt Lake City and not how many miles other have on their tires
