I have used both hair spray and spray paint ...no issues at all.

interesting hair spray, never thought about it.
you can also use golf club grip tape

Hairspray works great, been using for 40 years. Spray inside new grip, provides lubrication to help get it on, then sticks great. Do remember to take it back in the house if it belongs to the OL.
