Default Stalling issue after iac cleaning

So I changed my battery yesterday on my 16 fxdl and while I had it apart I decided to clean the iac because I was getting some stalling issues before the bike warms up. This morning I go out to head to work and the bike started fine in neutral but the second I drop it into gear it stalled, clutch pulled in. It wouldn’t start in gear so I stay in neutral and drop it into first and it stuttered. Take off and if I let off more than half clutch it starts to stall again. The only way I was able to let the clutch out was to let it run up to 4000 or so rpms. Went to come home and same problem seems to happen. Also could be my imagination but the bike seems to be running really hot. My commute is only 3-4 minutes and the bike was steaming hot. Any ideas?

Sounds like you need a clutch adjustment- play around with that. In gear with the clutch pulled in all the way- you should be able to push the bike a bit. It will be difficult to push- but doable. That will give you a better idea.

Shouldn’t be the case. Bike rolls in gear with the clutch in and that wouldn’t explain the bike trying to stall under load with the clutch half way out

Sounds like it’s still an issue with IAC. May have to replace it.

Is there any chance spraying tb cleaned up in that hole could have made the problem worse than it was before?

The ecm may have to relearn, cleaning the IAC and changing the battery at the same time could do that. Try turning the ignition on without starting the engine, slowly open and close the throttle all the way a few times, turn the bike off for a few minutes then try starting it.

edit: also make sure you have a good quality battery, not one of those cheap 60 dollar pieces of crap. Having the right battery for the bike makes a big difference. Ask me how I know.

Its not drive by wire so it does have an iac. No codes though.

I was thinking that was a possibility too. Battery was an agm from O’Reilly. Not super cheap but not a high end either. My local Harley wanted nearly 200 and that wasn’t in the budget

only other thing I’m noticing is a little oil residue under the oil filter. I just did an oil change a week ago so maybe I didn’t tighten the filter enough.

What did you use to clean the throttle body and the IAC, if I may ask?
