Default External Breather Filter

I’m running my external breather down to the bottom of the bike. Is it necessary to put a filter on the end of the hose? Does the crankcase pull air back in through the breather? I was running a catch can and it was just full of yellow gunk and water which I assume is just condensation mixed with oil vapors.

I run the hose below the frame about 2 inches. I put steel wool in the end to prevent bug going up or clogging the line.

Stick your finger over the end of the hose when the engine is running. You can feel it only blows air out. Filters are not needed and just catch oil which then drips on the ground when the bike is parked.

IF you're running a filter on that line under your bike...check it from time to time...even pull it and clean it. In some parts of the country...fine dust will clog it. You won't like what happens next.

the whole reason the EPA just announced the strictest regulations on the transportation industry.
pretty soon, you will be wondering wether it is cheaper to replace the batteries or the vehicle.

I understand that the govmint said that buying an electric vehicle will be cheaper to buy and operate and maintain come 2035. Guess I have a hard time understanding this as batteries don't last forever.....

Filter isnt necessary for performance. It is meant to limit oil misting onto the bike and into the environment.

If you use a PCV type breather like Trask CheckM8, or make your own by retrofitting a PCV check valve into the existing crankcase cover, it won't suck air, moisture, and dirt into the sump. Without a check valve, it will when the pistons both go up. So a check valve is a must.

Ah… I understand your confusion. What you missed in that announcement is what’s known as the “ quiet part” that politicians aren’t saying out loud. They will make EV’s cheaper by making internal combustion MUCH more expensive through taxes and fees.
