Look under the bottom screw. It says dry type element. I'd throw that oil soaked thing in the trash and get a new filter.

Pretty sure that is the HD Stage 1 high flow filter kit and not to be oiled.
I went thru exact same thing as you when I purchased a 2008 Ultra Classic used years ago. I ordered a new K&N that was designed to bolt on in place of the factory filter but it doesn't work that way.
So be careful as your filter is nothing like the factory filter as far as mounting. So must of changed the back plate with the kit.

I would suggest replacing it with a K&N if you plan to keep her for a while.

I have the HD extreme ventilator and the damn red color fades WAY TOO FAST. Actually thought about cleaning, allow a good drying time and soaking her down with red dye... 🤔

The nice red color last maybe a month....🤬

You're assuming I can see, and read, so 'there's that' .
Thank you, I just took the cover off, and with flashlight, thick glasses
and a magnifying glass, I found it clear as day. ''dry filter do not oil'' .

I had cleaned the filter and blew it out
with air, before mounting it for 'the test' a
couple days ago,
but maybe I've compromised it by having
oiled it in the past, and cleaning it out. :shrugs:

Does anyone have a link to the filter element, or do I just
buy another complete assembly?

I used arm and hammer laundry detergent, that may have been a mistake.

Ok, will do.
Is that the 50 to 70 dollar filter I see on amazon, or is there
just a filter element to replace?

Try a red felt marker/sharpie, or get some of the red shrink wrap.... 😄
Yeah, about the mounting holes, that is what alerted me to guessing that
my filter was not stock.
Stamped on the filter housing is; ''For HD twin cam covers only''
also has the HD logo, AND 'made in usa'.
After removing the great looking Chrome cover a couple
days ago, I decided to leave it off, for some reason I like
the look of the exposed filter better.

A friend I sold my 08 to, carried it into the HD dealer and walked out with a new one in the last year or so.

Iol, I'm back to square one,
I searched the HD portal and amazon, I found nothing on the portal.
The amazon filter housing (below)
looks identical to what is on my bike, the bolt pattern with the 'ears'
and spacing is the only one I've found anywhere that looks like
what I have, BUT IT'S OILED, I'm back to not knowing what
I have my bike. I seem to be going around in circles just like
I did 2 years ago. 🤔😄
Amazon Best match. Amazon Best match.
