Default pinning down handlebars - help please

My ape hangers seem to move every time I hit a bump. I have to give them a bit of a push to get them back in place (when i stop). If it keeps happening, the rings will wear down and I would have to get a new set of bars and the clamp that holds the speedometer and the bars in place. Since they are internally wired, I can't pin them down by drilling through the bars and the clamp. Is there a work around, or does anyone know what I can do to solve this issue? I keep an allen key with me at all times to tighten the screws whenever I go riding. I'm scared I'll hit a big pothole causing me to pull back on the bars making them fall flat backwards, which can/will make me lose control and hit the ground. any ideas? Im unable to enjoy the ride because I'm always thinking of the bars moving.

You have a Single piece clamp I guess?
You know thats a "pinch" clamp so when you tighten it, you loosen the back screws first so you can tighten the front screws all the way tight- THEN tighten the rear screws- use a torque wrench...

Just a thought, you could use some "radial bearing" LocTite on the clamp/ bar area. Hafe you considered removing the wires on one side? Dont thnk its that big of a job...just remove the pins from the connectors and slip the wires back on easiest side. Use a puller string to pull em back through...

!! Thanks for help...I was not paying attention to the "pinching" mechanism of the clamp. I'm going to do what you said to tighten the clamp. Thanks!!!

I had a set if 16" on my old Kaw. I had the same problem, and using a one piece top clamp I just could never get it tight enough that they wouldn't move.
I went with a split clamp set and that fixed it. To cover the middle of the bars where the knurling was I put a tach there.
Just in case you can't get the single top clamp tight enough.

Would you post an update and let us know if that worked?

I positioned it so i'm not pulling back on it when i'm riding. Its a bit pushed forward, if that makes sense. So I have to extend my arms out a bit further, and i dont pull back on them when i hit a bump in the road. Also used a torque wrench and had a good 4-5 turns left in the nut. When I was just using the allen key to make them tight, I thought I couldnt go any further. But the torque wrench really helped. I am thinking of relocating the speedo, and will get the split clamps when I do so since you said they hold the bars in place better.
