Just got back from a 5 day road trip with the wife on my Ultra. Got a flat rear tire at about 78mph. Interesting event while 2 up and loaded with another 80 lbs. of gear. Progressive roadside assistance got me off the interstate at no cost to me. Local H-D dealer was closing in 1/2 hour and told me they wouldn't help me, too late in the day. They did offer to let me park my bike overnight outside their store. I told them to just kiss my ass and had the tow operator drop us off at a hotel and I put a plug in it. I always carry a plug kit and an air compressor. The plug has lasted the 1,000 miles home.

Another first, I was traveling again on the Interstate ( only twice on the whole trip) in northern minnesota and had a black bear jump out on the road. If he had not changed his mind at the last second and stopped, I would not have been able to avoid hitting him.

I'm glad to here that you kept the shiny side up with a flat tire at that speed.
I know that would put a skid mark in my shorts at 78 mph. Dealers aren't like they use to be 35-40yrs ago.
I too carry one of the mushroom plug kits with air cartridges on long trips and I have roadside assistance with my insurance. I've been with Foremost since 1979. They were the only company I could find that would insure my ridged frame chopper back then.
I haven’t had to deal with a bear yet but we do have some big black bears around here too.

I got the fender finished. The ghost brackets for the detachable bags will have to wait until I order longer bolts. Here are some pics.

Skip, the fender looks great. Definitely adds to the cool factor. Have fun with the wiring, it's the details that kill.

AFMM3, sorry to hear about your troubles, but it sounds like you have your stuff together. I sometimes wonder what I would do if I got a flat with laced wheels w/tubes. where did you go on your road trip?

Thanks 02fx4dude, It only took about 15 minutes to shorten the wires after I dug out my + 250 reading glasses.

Those pictures make me realize how much I miss my stock low rider wheels. Might be a mission for this winter.

The FLd footboard kit came in Friday. I bolted the right rear footboard mount on & it clears the lower pipe on my cobra speedsters by about 3/8". I made 3/16" spacers for the rear mounts to match the Lindby Multibar mounting brackets. The footboards come with 1" grade 8 bolts and now I'm waiting for the 1 1/4" grade 8 bolts to come in.

I was looking in the V-Twin catalog and found this fender. I think it might work with a home made mounting bracket.

I put the FLD footboard kit are on last Friday. I’m really amazed how much different the bike looks now.

I’m still waiting on the springer fender to ship.

I do admire the rest of you for all the research and time you must have put into to modifying the FL fenders & footboards to make them work.

I just ordered a 103 big bore kit with 255 cams for when I get bored this winter. Now that’s something I do know how to do. That puts me up to $1435.79 for this years mods a lot cheaper then a new bike.

I always hated forward pegs, felt like my feet were being blown off. There is so much for your boots to grip with footboards that you can relax quite a bit more at Interstate speeds. You will be hooked for life, there is no going back...........

Skip - the boards look great. I'm in process of adjusting mine as I installed my engine guard yesterday. I'll have some pics later today hopefully. I'm gearing up to go on my fall ride thru Utah and over to CA coast and down, and looking forward to the floorboards and some highway pegs to rest my feet.
