Whether to use heavier oil or not depends on the setup ... I have seen a lot of recommendations to use heavier oil when using the open bath type stock hydraulic front end ... however, if using a cartridge emulator, it is not a good idea because the heavier oil inhibits the action of the valve ....

I personally had experienced bottoming (dented a fender against my highway bar/engine guard) ... so, made sense for me to increase oil level a little ... if you're not having the problem, I wouldn't advise it ....

I would love the FLD front end on my scoot, but I'm not rich and I think that will be some major bucks. If I found a Fatbob triple tree, could I reuse my fork tubes and brake setup? Then use the axle and rim from the Fatbob? Then I could go with the FL front fender right?

I am using the Fat Bob trees. I reused the complete Street Bob forks assemblies, the brakes and the spacers. I then used a 16 inch wheel from an Electra-Glide. This will all bolt together with no modification.
These parts do require modification. I used an FL Softail lightbar and attached it to my Fat Bob trees using Kuryakin 49mm (4 ea) clamps. The lightbar required just a little grinding to fit better. There is a one inch difference between a lightbar for a Softail and an FLH, learn which is which before you buy anything off eBay. One advantage to the Softail lightbar is that you can install the quick release hardware for the windshield to it. Used Heritage windshields on eBay are a dime a dozen.
An FLH front fender will never fit, you must use an FLS fender from a Heritage Classic or a Deluxe. The tabs are at least one inch narrower. Then there is the adapter needed to attach the fender to the 49mm forks sliders. I had to make mine but there is at least one company out there that now makes them for the Fat Bob sliders. The bolt pattern is different for the FXDF and other FXDs.
I have pictures in my album of my build and if you have any more specific questions before you buy, don't be afraid to ask. I still want your saddlebags, damn...........

This is great news, I like the way your bike looks the best. I really dig the old Duo Glides, IMO they are the best looking Harleys ever built. I saw a Deluxe in Tenn. this weekend sporting white bubble bags, they looked great. I did not know thier was a diffrence in the FL style fender, thanks for the info. I dont think finding Fatbob trees will be to hard. Thanks for the help. I am sure I'll have a million and one questions when I start doing this work.

Slick, here is the Fat Bob adapter brackets for FLS fenders. http://www.kustombaggers.com/Klock-W...ductId=-288189 Unfortunately, like me, you have Street Bob sliders. These could be redrilled all the way through and work on ours.

I see you have the spot light kit already. Too much $$ to not reuse. Larger headlight and you should be looking good.

I learned a bunch last winter fitting all the H-D parts together and I have more to do this winter. I want the BB Reproduction Bubble Bags (of course), I needed to de-black my engine with some polished covers rather than that damn wrinkle black. I will also be fitting up a 2009 2 into 2 Electra-Glide exhaust with fishtails (I know I can do this!). I will keep an eye out for your questions...................

OK, I think I got things kinda figured out. Long story short...

Saturday I pulled the forks and drained/refilled with HD type E fork oil.

Sunday I rode over to girlfriends house, 20 miles, fork oil everywhere and still had the super bounce front end.

today, did some searching and reading on HD forums, and checked service manual. Pulled forks, removed springs (without draining) and measured oil level from top of tube. Hmmm, 3.5", manual says 5". sucked out some oil to get 5", button things up and ride over to girlfriends house. nice and smooth, no leaks... so far.

So it looks like the 13.4oz specified by the service manual was TOO MUCH???

great, a place i can pick peoples brains. OK, so here is the plan, as long as the trees i plan on using, use 41mm forks.

FLD tripple trees
fatboy fork tins
fatboy light
fatboy forks
after market fl type fender
my SB front wheel, brakes and handle bars

Now the FLD trees are supposed to use 41mm tubes, as per the initial questioning over on the dyna board, and after taking some measurements at the stealer ship yesterday (I did not bring a set of calipers with to check the tube diameter), i decided if this is true i will be able to fit fatboy tins or a freight train nacelle to it.

so will the fatboy forks in a FLD's (basically same width as a wide glide) trees give me the same width as a wideglide front end? the reason i ask is because there are adapters out there to use a standard "narrow glide" wheel and brakes.

So far I have a 16inch 3.5 hoop for the rear, off of a softtail. I need this laced to my hub, will wait for winter on that. I hope to be looking at a rear fender within the month. I all ready have the rear light bar and lights. Front end wise I am working out a price with a guy for the triple trees, I plan to reuse all of my lower fork parts. A freind has a heritage front fender and light he is selling me for $50.00. Not to long ago I helped him out with my old foward controls for his Super Glide. This brings me to my front wheel, what year electra glide wheel will I need to use?
