up here in Champaign its 80 and sunny, not!. I was lucky the storm has fallen on my RDO's. They did come to my house and take my 4x4 patrol vehicle. All that means tho is no k9 call-outs. i'm not complaining at all. Hope things are good down south. Talked to my daughter at EIU she said she was not at all sad classes got called off.

Lost one of our brothers last night. PO Michael Califano was killed while on a traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway. I graduated the academy with him 12 years ago. He was a great cop and great person. My heart goes out to his family including his wife and 3 small children. Please be safe out there brothers and sisters!!!!

What a shame fiveliter. Was there a bad guy involved or was this a crash of some sort? Regardless. May Officer Califina rest in peace.

PO Califano stopped a box truck for equipment violations and was checking the driver's license back in his police cruiser when a subject operating a flatbed tow truck with a car on top, fell asleep at the wheel. The flatbed rear-ended the police cruiser at approximately 60-70 MPH. The police cruiser was crushed between the two trucks. It took Emergency Service a 1/2 hour to extract PO Califano from the cruiser. He was pronouced 2 hours later. I will be attending services for him this Thursday.......

I hate hearing that fiveliter! I had several real close calls in my career. We've had a lot of Truck/Car accidents like that around here this year. We have a truck driver starting a trial for Veh. Manslaughter shortly in my county. He killed two people while texting through a construction zone. They will hammer him for that one.

Hey Dogcop, it's amazing how much difference the weather can be between Charleston and Champaign. Only 50 miles difference. If it goes North you get it and if it goes South I get it. Eastern University never calls off classed. That was very unusual.

Thanks for all your comments guys. I attended PO Califano's funeral service on Thursday. Over 10,000 police officers attended in 20 degree weather. Pretty good considering our deparment only has 2700 members. Glad to see the support from so many other departments. At the end of the day, we are all brothers and sisters in blue.
