valve train noise
i got 7028 miles on my xg500 and the top end is gettin LOUD, clackin and echoing off the cages next to me at the stoplight. been city driven only, had it up to 60 mph only three times, changed the oil at 4984 miles and just the other day, every time with syn 20/50 . not a big fan of this overhead cam and chains and adjusters and guides and tensioner stuff. my old shovelhead had a lifter screen that you could remove and clean when the tappets started to get too noisy, but yeah the good old days .... any ideas or experience with this could you let me know.... much appreciated its a 2015 thanks

I suggest you check the valve lash soon. I know the owners manual shows the first service at 15000 miles for checking those but it sounds like you need to get on that right away. On my own 750 Street Rod I've also thought I could notice the valves getting louder sometimes. As far as your dislike for the engine design goes, don't feel that way. It's a really good engine and a big step up technologically from the air cooled 45 degree V-twins.

2015 500 valve train noise
SO .. did the valve lash checkup, tightened up three on the front cylinder .002" , quite a little job ,having to loosen up the near side adjuster to get the feeler guage into the far side , just me cause the service "tech" at the local dealer said he couldnt hear any noise, but its still loud when it warms up, and the one qt of 50 w and one of 60w and the rest 20/50 syn here in the 80 degree daytime heat only muffles it for a little bit. i could see if they were out .015" or .020", but .002"? i guess ill try the auto ratcheting cam chain adjuster if/WHEN it gets worse damn service techs are supposed to know all about this **** , instead I gotta do trial an error let me know whatcha think thanks yall
