Best tuner for 2001 MM EFI?

FarmerTeds,
#1 like Ed suggested, got to start with the basics. Ensure TPS is adjusted correctly. For Twinkies Ed would suggest 0.195 volts for 100% closed throttle. Then follow Ed's warm and cold idle procedure which has been repeated dozens of times on this forum. Once you have the MM adjusted properly, then you can start shopping for tuners. In 2024, you have 3 main options (of course since MM has been around 20+ years you can find old/obsolete tuners on eBay):
(a) A tuner that plugs directly into each injector, then plug the stock injector harness into it...these are known as 'piggy back' tuners. The idea is the the ECM transmits a standard pulse through the injector harness, but the tuner, modifies the pulse going to the injector...Cobra 2000FI and Dobjeck EJK, about $250...this would be the closest thing to 'jetting a carb'
(b) Power Commander...same concept, but plugs directly into the ECM, piggybacking between the stock harness...this allows the tuner to modify more than just the fuel...more tune options!!! that's why it is the best...the draw back is it is still going through the 20+ year old ECM...about $500 for the tuner and if you want to add O2 sensors for the 'auto tune' feature add another $400.
(c) Replace the ECM with an aftermarket "tune-able" ECM...Thundermaxx and it comes with O2 sensors for auto tune...$1,100.
