Successfully hacked my Harley from my Mac

RE: Successfully hacked my Harley from my Mac
Also the key thing is that the software must be installed on the MAC. MS Virtual PC only runs on Windows, not MAC OS.
Virtualization software has been around for a long time for the Windows OS. Now that MAC is using Intel chips, they can leverage that and vendors are producing software for Mac’s to run MS OS versions. I have been using enterprise versions of VMware for a long time. It is cool stuff.

Let me followup with a bit further information. Doing this from a Mac requires a few key things:
1. Parallels (or VMWare) virtualization software. I have used both though generally prefer Parallels... just my preference.
2. Copy of Windows 98 or higher.
3. A good usb to serial adapter. I personally like the IO Gear USB Serial/PDA adapter as they provide drivers for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.
You need to configure your Mac to allow USB mapping from the host (Mac OS X) to connect to the guest (Windows) thus allowing the serial adapter to pass through the Mac and be directly addressed by the PC. Due to this requirement Virtual PC will not work as you need Windows to be able to directly communicate with the serial port.
Let me know if there are any other question... I do know a bit about the Mac being a Systems Engineer @ Apple.

I assume this is using the dongle and doing so allows SERT use on more than 1 bike?
I have 2 bikes and would think the MoCo would allow that rather than buying 2 serts, but no, money talks!

Yeah... Sometimes us Mac users have to take a few steps backwards to interface Windoze only software...[sm=pcwhack.gif]

Funny how mac users STILL run windows......you don't see any windows users emulating mac for any reason......

RE: Successfully hacked my Harley from my Mac
Still unclear on your claim..
Did you 'hack' into your Harleys ECM.. This could be HUGE....
or did you just figure a way for the Mac to use the SERT interface?

I answered my own question by reading the rest of the posts.. Had me going for a while..
You post should have read "Successfuly hacked my Mac formy Harley"
