Timing help

RE: Timing help
it's a fairly easy task, you need to remove the timing plug located between the cyl. bases on the left side of the motor. you'll need to know which crank mark is tdc, harley used differant ones depending what year model, bring that mark to the center of the timing hole, most single fire modules have a light on them, turn the module untill the light goes off this should be tdc, if your module does not have a light ground the front spark plug to the motor with the wire on and turn the module untill the plug fires this should also be clse to tdc. you then need to time with a timing light.

RE: Timing help
Try this one it worked everytime on the 5 shovelheads I had.
Place your TDC mark center in the timing hole.
On the timing cam with a pair of plyers rotate the cam it will stop at 5 degrees with fly weaghts open.
( you will need to grind notch in a set of cheap plyers to clear the cam nut.)
Turn the point plate will holding at 5 deg. until lobe on the points is until it rides on top of the cam and tightn the braker plate.
let the point cam return to normal bump motor until on the high or open point position and set the points gap.
You will be amazed at how accurate this is.
One other thing put high temp non fling grease on that cam !!!
