brain tesser time ,,, 79 shovel 113 in points ign dual plugged heads ,5ohm coils run in series motor has been rebuilt new cam new pistons here is problem when I try to static time it on tdc I hook test light to it turn points plate all the way retardedhave to pull hold down screws out and contine retarded it past the threaded holes finaly light will go out tried 3 electronic ign and same thing have to retard it past the screw hole to get light to go out everything is correct in motor had it check by 2 other mechanic friends and they are also baffled 2 yr f###king with this cursed scooter any ideas from the brain bunch thanks much ps have tried everthing we can think of atleast twice
What brand and model cam did you use? Are you sure the cam was for amshovel? Maybe the end was not machined correctly, toss your old cam back in real quick, confirm tdc and try again as a test.

Timing is not set at TDC. Set it at the advance mark. Points should open when the mechanical advance is held in the advance position, not the retarded position.
If you’re trying to set the retarded position at TDC, that method is very flawed. With that method, you’re assuming the mechanical advance unit is precisely 25 degrees of travel—-they aren’t.
