Hi All, New to this forum, I've read all the charging system posts on this forum for Ironheads, I have an 1983 XLS New reulator, rebuilt generator, after market light in dash, light stays on and no charge to battery, I've flashed, I've checked wiring according to service manual scematic. I've taken the generator back to rebuild shop, they show me on there machine it works. What am I missing?

 

Is the generator actually not charging the battery, or is the GEN light just burning?

 

Not charging battery. This bike has been full rebuilt, I mean everything. New wiring harness, motor, etc... How do I test for out put of the generator on the bike? Some people say there shoud be power on the tan wires, is this true? If so, I don't. I've put power to the tan wires, but that draws down the battery voltage also. thanks

 

have you checked voltage coming from regulator?

 

I Have battery voltage on the red wire to the voltage regulator, Are you suppose to have any voltage on the tan wires?

 

Update, Tested Generator according to manual, out put good, there fore must be regulator, can not believe I can get two bad regulators from two different manufactures in a row, Just my - luck. Thanks all.
